A modernist watercolor on paper titled "Big Bongo", 11" x 11 1/2", painted in 1989. The artist, William T. Lumpkins, was a member of The Transcendental Group, 11 artists dedicated to abstract art in the 1930's. Lumpkins was one of the leaders of the group and in later years became a "world class" architect and the "Dean of Solar Adobe Architecture". He exhibited in both fields and is recognized as one of the masters and a pioneer in Abstract Expressionism. His work is collected extensively by museums and collectors and today is selling in the $5,000 -$7,000 range. Lumpkins passed away in 2000, but for 15 years was a personal friend of my wife's and mine and designed an adobe house for us in Santa Fe, New Mexico and one in San Antonio, Texas. This is wonderful art by one of the great art pioneers. Beautifully framed and ready to display. Overall dimensions of watercolor and frame are 17 1/2" x 16 3/4". |
